What is a Telegram QR code and how it works

A Telegram QR code is a QR code that opens a Telegram channel, group, direct chat (t.me/username) or bot deep-link (?start=campaign) with a single scan from a phone camera. It stores the public t.me link so people can land straight on the right destination and join, message or start a bot on iOS, Android or a modern browser. The Telegram API documentation explains the supported deep-link formats for bot start parameters.

Add your logo, brand colours and AI-generated designs so the code matches your community identity, news channel, support flow or bot persona. Telegram introduced built-in QR support for adding contacts in its 2021 reactions and translations update. You can print it on conference badges, website footers, support flyers, course pages or event posters. Every scan appears in your dashboard, so you can compare channel, group and bot variants without reprinting.

Create a channel, group or bot QR code in 3 steps

Copy your t.me link or bot deep-link, customise the QR code with your logo and AI-generated designs, then download it in PNG, SVG or PDF for badges, flyers, footers or landing pages.

  1. Step 1

Copy your t.me link or bot URL

Open Telegram and find the channel, group, direct chat or bot you want to share. Tap the channel or bot name, then choose Share or Copy Link to get t.me/<username>. For bot deep-links, add ?start=<param> so you can identify the source later, for example t.me/MyBot?start=conference.

  2. Step 2

    Customise the QR code

Add your logo, brand colours and pixel styling. Choose from 1200+ templates or generate QR Art to match your community look, news channel theme, startup deck or support flyer.

  3. Step 3

    Download and use it

Export in PNG, SVG or PDF for print or screen use. Test the scan first on iOS Camera and Android Lens, both with and without Telegram installed, to make sure the deep-link opens properly before large-scale printing.

Frequently asked questions about Telegram QR codes

Sharing Telegram channels, bots and groups with QR codes.

Open Telegram, go to Settings and tap your name to show your personal QR code for your t.me username, or copy any channel, group or bot link and paste it into QR Code AI. You can then add your logo, brand colours and download it in PNG, SVG or PDF. When someone scans it, Telegram opens directly to the contact, channel, group or bot.

Yes, it is different. The QR code shown on Telegram Web or Telegram Desktop is only for login and can be scanned only from the Telegram app on your phone to authorise that session. A Telegram QR code created in QR Code AI is for sharing a public t.me destination such as a profile, channel, group or bot. One is for sign-in, the other is for sharing.

Yes. You can create a free QR code for Telegram on QR Code AI, customise it with your logo, brand colours and AI-designed templates, then download it in PNG, SVG or PDF without watermarks. Most Telegram QR codes are dynamic by default, so you can change the destination later and track scans by country, device, browser and time in your dashboard.

If Telegram is installed on the phone, scanning the code usually opens the Telegram app directly to the linked channel, group, chat or bot. If the app is not installed, the t.me link opens in a browser first, where the user can preview the page and choose to open it in Telegram. iOS Camera and Android Lens both recognise these links well.

To sign in to Telegram Web with a QR code, open web.telegram.org on your desktop browser and wait for the one-time login QR to appear. On your phone, open the Telegram app, go to Settings, then Devices, then Link Desktop Device. Scan the QR code shown on the desktop screen and Telegram will authorise the session straight away. You can remove that linked device later from the same Devices section.

A Telegram QR code usually opens a public channel, group, direct chat or bot, which suits communities, announcements and automated flows. A WhatsApp QR code usually opens a one-to-one chat through wa.me, which is better for direct customer conversations. The main difference is the destination style, audience behaviour and how each app is commonly used.
